Adoptive Parent blog

Another week has flown by again!

Blessings Thanksgiving was wonderful! I managed to keep it together through all my favourite songs but broke down as I did the promises as a mother. We had lots of family and friends there and it was great to see some friends from St Francis too who have supported us along the journey.

We enjoyed a meal then with family and some close friends at a local restaurant. It was lovely to relax and catch up. It was wonderful too, to watch our Fantastic Four and reflect on the past year with Blessing. The older ones absolutely adore her and you’d never think that she was anything but their natural sister. We look forward to celebrating one year of Blessing being with us next week.

This week has been the last week of term and yesterday was Butterfly’s last day at primary school. Another emotional event! The tissue manufacturers have done well out of me this week! To finish off the term we had a leaver’s concert where all the children took part and the year 6’s did a ‘Dr Who’ play where they went back in time and remembered all their happy memories at the school. Will just have Obi-wan at primary school now and when he leaves Blessing will hopefully start at the school. We’ll have to see what her needs are. The portage worker feels she should be able to access mainstream with support.

Also this week our application for adoption allowance for 2009-2010 was meant to be considered by the placing authority at a financial panel. However, once again it has been deferred. It is getting quite frustrating as it has now been deferred 3 or 4 times! We also haven’t received the regular payments that we were supposed to be getting to cover 2010-2011! Have e-mailed the link SW and now it is a matter of waiting again. You’d think after the legal adoption everything would be sorted and in place! Not necessarily I have found.
