SFCS Adopter Conference taking shape

June 01, 2015

SFCS is pleased to announce further details of our annual adopter conference, which is supported by Milton Keynes Council.

The conference takes place on Saturday 21st November at The Ridgeway Centre, Milton Keynes.

Entitled Taming the Tiger – Emotional regulation for children with complex trauma’, the day will be divided into four parts:

  1. Put your mask on first – emotional regulation of the adult
  2. How trauma changes the brain and emotional regulation
  3. Trauma-based behaviours and emotional regulation at home and at school
  4. Practical strategies for promoting emotional regulation at home and at school

We are delighted that our conference will be led by Dr Renée P Marks.  Dr Marks works as Consultant Therapist and Clinical Lead at Integrate Families in the North of England.  Integrate Families is a National Centre for children with Complex Trauma and Dissociation.

Dr Marks is a national and international trainer on the topics of attachment, emotional regulation, complex trauma and dissociation in children and adolescents.  Her training is based on a combination of research, theory and the practical application of these in the work and therapeutic approach with children and adolescents.

Through her vast experience in working with children and adolescents, Dr Marks provides practical ‘tools’ to adoptive parents, foster carers and teachers, and effective therapeutic techniques to therapists and counsellors in working with the more serious and complicated population of traumatised children and adolescents.

Dr Marks is also an expert witness in private and family law and provides clinical supervision and consultation to both organisations and individual therapists.

We hope you will be able to join us for what promises to be useful and enlightening day for both adopters and professionals.

This conference is just one of the wide-ranging adoption support services we provide through Adoption Connections.  The conference is supported by Milton Keynes Council.

Our Conference webpage will be updated with further details about the conference when they become available, including how to book.  Please keep checking in for the latest news!
