Andy Sawford MP with adopters

Last Wednesday, 18th February, SFCS welcomed Andy Sawford MP to a special tea party in Corby, where he met some of our adopters and their children.  The event was held to raise awareness of the need to recruit more adopters in the area.

Our Adoption Connections service guides and supports prospective adopters through the adoption process and beyond.  We are keen to encourage more people across Northamptonshire to adopt the many children who are unable to live with their birth families.  There is particular need for adopters who are interested in offering a home to older children, siblings groups, children with additional needs, and black and dual heritage children.

Andy Sawford said “I really enjoyed meeting these families and talking to parents about the challenges and joys of adopting.  I am very pleased to support the work of SFCS, particularly in relation to the help that it provides to build new families around the children who most need them”.

Laura, a single adopter of a thirteen year old girl who lives in Corby spoke about her experiences of adopting through the Adoption Connections service at SFCS.

“I always wanted to be a mum but the opportunity never arose for me to have my own child and as I turned 40 I decided that adoption was the way forward for me.  My experience with SFCS has been positive from the very beginning.  Their social workers have always been there for me when I needed them and the training I received was really positive and made sense once Cara* my daughter moved in with me”.

“For me having my lovely daughter in my life has completely transformed everything for the better – I can’t imagine not having her now.  I never knew what I was missing.  I love her every bit as much as if she was my birth daughter… she simply has made my life complete.  I do believe we were meant for each other”.

If you live in the Northamptonshire area and are considering adoption, we’d love to speak to you.  You can pick up the phone or send us an email at any time, but we will also be out and about in your area over the next couple of weeks.

On Friday 27th February, between 4pm and 7pm, we will be hosting an information stand in Morrisons supermarket in Kettering.  Our friendly social workers will be on hand to chat to you, give you general information and answer any questions you may have.  And on Wednesday 4th March, we will be hosting a First Wednesday Information Evening in Corby, between 6pm and 7.30pm at the Hampton by Hilton Hotel.  This event is more structured, beginning with a presentation from our social workers and an SFCS adopter, and ending with an all-important opportunity to chat and ask questions.

We hope to see you at one of these events soon!
