Covid Update: July 2021

July 21, 2021

In light of the recent relaxation of Covid restrictions on Monday 19th July, we wanted to update you on how we will be working over the coming weeks.

Please be assured, we continue to welcome new adoption enquiries and provide high-quality services and support to all of our adopters and other service-users.

Whilst all restrictions have been lifted, we are adopting a measured and considered approach to re-opening, like many other organisations in our position. Case numbers are rising significantly in our region, and we want to ensure that all staff, adopters and other services users feel safe.  We will therefore not be making any significant changes to how we operate for at least another month.

Staff are mostly working from home, with occasional trips to the office and visits to adopters. If you know the mobile number of the staff member you need to speak to, please phone them directly. If not, you can still reach us by calling 01908 572700 and our Business Support team will arrange a call-back for you. Outside of office hours, you can leave a voicemail.

Whilst staff can arrange meetings using video-conferencing technology, we appreciate that face-to-face meetings are more appropriate in some cases.  We are therefore offering some flexibility, and encouraging social work staff to use their judgement on a case-by-case basis.  All necessary safety precautions will be taken during face-to-face meetings, whether they take place in your home or at our offices.

Events and training

For the time being, we will continue to host our adoption information events online. These take place via Zoom on the first Wednesday and third Saturday of each month.  If you would like to join us for one of our online sessions, please contact us here.  We will take some basic details and send you the Zoom link and password, so that you can join us at the necessary time.

Likewise, our Preparation Training, Follow-On Training and Therapeutic Parenting courses will also continue online via Zoom. Our social work team worked extremely hard to bring our extensive training programme online, and feedback has been incredibly positive.  One attendee commented, “The trainers were really good – they came across as really knowledgeable and also friendly/approachable. We can’t believe that it was 5 hours of training – it went really quickly and was enjoyable (unlike most long Zoom calls!).”

Our regular programme of family social events has suffered over the past 16 months. However, we have hosted some very successful online activities, including dance parties and virtual brush parties. We were also delighted to be able to host two outdoor activity sessions at the Caldecotte Xperience.

Whilst most activities will remain ‘virtual’ for now, we are hoping to re-start our monthly Stay & Play sessions for adopters with young children in September.  Our adopters will always be contacted directly with details of future activities, whether they be online or in person.  If you think you are missing out on this information, please contact us so that we can make sure you’re on our mailing list.

We will be reviewing our position at the end of August, so please keep an eye on our Latest News page and our Facebook and Twitter pages for further updates and information.  Thank you very much for your continued support and understanding.
