Gearing up for National Adoption Week

October 03, 2017

Here at SFCS, we’re all set for National Adoption Week 2017, which begins on Monday 16th October.

National Adoption Week is an annual nationwide campaign which seeks to raise the profile of the thousands of children who are currently in care, awaiting adoption. This year’s campaign runs between Monday 16th – Sunday 22nd October, and the theme is siblings.

As always, the need to find families for some of our most vulnerable children remains at the heart of this year’s event. According to First4Adoption, there is now clear evidence that decisions for adoption and placement orders are on the rise. With this in mind, National Adoption Week 2017 remains recruitment focused and will highlight the need to find the right adopters for sibling groups.

Throughout the week-long campaign SFCS will be very busy online. We are delighted that two of our adoptive families, who both adopted siblings, have agreed to share their stories with us. They’ll be published on our website during National Adoption Week itself, so keep an eye on our Latest News page.

SFCS will also be undertaking a full-scale social media campaign throughout the week, on our Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn pages. And you can help!

We’ll be busy sharing real adoption stories, fantastic films and animations, and loads of useful information and advice about adoption. We’re inviting everyone to get involved by likingsharing and re-tweeting our posts. This will help us to spread our message to a larger audience and really raise the profile of adoption across the region.

As last year, the campaign will be using the hashtag #SupportAdoption – please use it whenever you can to boost the message.

But we’re not just busy online – we’d love to see you in person too! During National Adoption Week, we are hosting two adoption information events at different times, to hopefully cater for everyone’s needs. You can join us at 6.30pm on Wednesday 18th October, or at any time between 12 noon and 2pm on Friday 20th October. These events will enable potential adopters to find out more about the adoption process in a relaxed, no-pressure atmosphere and ask any questions they may have.

We’re also hosting a special coffee morning for our existing adopters too. If you adopted through SFCS and haven’t already received details of this event, please get in touch.

And don’t forget, you can also #SupportAdoption by getting involved in our Let’s Eat campaign, which runs throughout the month of October.

It’s certainly going to be busy! We hope you will get involved with our campaign this National Adoption Week, and if you have any suggestions or contributions that you wish to pass on to us, just get in touch– we’d love to hear from you!

Anyone interested in finding out more about adoption can call our offices on 01908 572700. Alternatively, you can use our Contact Us page and you’ll find loads of information on our I’d like to adopt page.
