National Adoption Week 2019 takes place between Monday 14th – Sunday 20th October. This year’s campaign will focus on the need to find parents for those children who wait longest in care, including sibling groups, older children and those from black and minority ethnic (BAME) backgrounds. It will highlight the shortage of adopters in the UK, bust some of the myths surrounding adoption and encourage people from all walks of life to consider whether they could become an adoptive parent.
Once again, our amazing adopters will be supporting our campaign by sharing their journeys and experiences during the week. We are so grateful to those families for taking the time to support us and for being so honest about their experiences as an adoptive family. Keep an eye on our Latest News page to read their stories as soon as they’re published.
We will also be releasing a series of new films, which have been created by one of our fabulous adoptive families. Throughout the week, they’ll be busting some of the myths around adoption. Think you can’t adopt? You could be wrong!
SFCS will also be undertaking a full-scale social media campaign throughout the week on Facebook and Twitter. And you can help!
We’ll be busy sharing real adoption stories, fantastic films and animations, and loads of useful information and advice about adoption. Even if you don’t feel that adoption is right for you, you can still support this important campaign by liking, sharing and re-tweeting the posts you see on our Facebook and Twitter pages. This will help us to spread our message to a larger audience and really raise the profile of adoption across our region.
This year’s campaign will be using the hashtag #YouCanAdopt – please use it whenever you can to boost the message.
We’re not just busy online – we’d love to see you in person too! During National Adoption Week, we are hosting an adoption information event at 10.30am on Saturday 19th October. This event will enable potential adopters to find out more about the adoption process in a relaxed, no-pressure atmosphere and ask any questions they may have.
