The Home for Good initiative was launched in early 2013 as a campaign with the aim of making fostering and adoption a significant part of the life and ministry of the Church in the UK. The campaign gained momentum; the Church was recognising the need for more people to foster or adopt, and the importance of supporting families that do this. In September 2014, Home for Good became a registered charity.
SFCS is a fully inclusive adoption agency, and we welcome all kinds of families for all kinds of children, regardless of age, race, cultural background, marital status or sexual orientation. This includes people of any or no religious faith.
The Home for Good ethos fits well with our own; all of their adoption partners have a passion for finding homes for the children who wait longest for the right adoptive family – older children, sibling groups, children from black or ethnic minority backgrounds, and children with complex needs.
Home for Good say: “Home for Good exists to find a home for every child who needs one. We believe the UK Church is ideally placed to respond to this need, by families stepping forward to open their hearts and homes to vulnerable children. As families explore and pursue fostering and adoption, we want to journey with them and ensure that they are valued and respected, and that their faith motivation is understood.
We know that we don’t need to become an adoption agency to do this, because there are already great local authorities and voluntary adoption agencies keen to welcome prospective adopters, who recognise the role of faith. We are pleased that SFCS have decided to partner with us as part of our Pathway to Adoption.”
Our partnership with Home for Good will help us to reach potential adopters in churches across our region and help them to understand the life-changing impact adoption can have on vulnerable children. We hope to encourage people of faith to consider whether they could adopt a child into their family.
