SFCS and the MK Marathon

February 22, 2018

SFCS is thrilled to have five runners taking part in the Milton Keynes Marathon and Half Marathon which takes place on 7th May 2018.

This will be our biggest team in recent years. We are expecting the runners to raise over £1,000 between them, with one of our fab five determined to beat last year’s highest fundraiser, who raised £320.

SFCS will use the funds to help continue offering its services to children and families in Milton Keynes and our surrounding areas – Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Northamptonshire, Hertfordshire, and parts of Cambridgeshire and East Anglia.

Let’s meet the SFCS team…

Georgina Chahed

Georgina founded her garden design practice, Touch Landscapes in 2013. In 2015 she was awarded a silver RHS medal at BBC Gardeners’ World Live. She is running for SFCS because she is passionate about supporting adoption. You can read more about her story at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/georgina-chahed

Joginder Sahunta

Joginder is an adoptive parent who is a certified business action coach. He specialises in helping businesses overcome difficulties and to transform and grow. As an adoptive parent, Joginder understands the complexities around adoption and wants to support other adoptive families and those who have been touched by adoption.

Martin Fuller

Martin is the Director of Fullers Family Law Practice. The firm specialises in Family Law so Martin has a great understanding of the importance of family. Looking for his next challenge, he was inspired by Joginder to run for St. Francis’ Children’s Society after hearing about the wonderful work that they do.

Caroline Milner

Caroline is a social worker for St. Francis’ Children’ Society in their Adoption Support team. She works directly with adoptive families, offering tailored support and importantly, being there when she is needed. All of the funds that Caroline raises will go directly towards purchasing specialist weighted therapy items. You can read more about the benefits they bring on her fundraising page at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/caroline-milner3

Zero-to-Hero Steve

Zero-to-Hero Steve is a Redway Runner and is the only one of our team who is going to be taking on the whole marathon! Steve and his wife adopted three children through SFCS and have been continuous supporters of the charity through donating toys, yoga equipment as well as attending lots of our family events. You can read Steve’s story here; https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/z2h-steve

Although we no longer have any charity places left for the marathon, we are looking for more people to join our fab five with their own place. By joining our MK Marathon and Half Marathon team you can make a real difference to vulnerable children and their adoptive families.

Leanne Sinclair, the Fundraising Officer at SFCS said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have such a big team taking part. Taking part in a challenging event like a marathon or half marathon is a great way to reach your own personal goals whilst making a real difference to the families we work with. We are very lucky to have the course run right past our office in Woolstone (see picture above!) so the team’s family and friends can join us at our special cheer point. Our team certainly won’t be able to miss us!”

For anyone interested in joining the SFCS team with our own place in the marathon, there is no fundraising target and you will receive exactly the same support as their charity runners. If you would like to secure your own place in either the marathon or half marathon, or would like more information then please get in touch with Leanne on 01908 572700, e-mail her at LeanneS@SFCS.org.uk or book your place at http://mkmarathon.com/enter-events/
