Spotlight on… Adoption Resources

January 26, 2021

Adopting a child is a life-changing event.  No-one should enter into it lightly and at SFCS, we always strongly urge our enquirers to find out as much as they can about adoption before embarking on their journey. Thankfully, SFCS provides a huge range of online adoption resources for just this purpose.

If you’re wondering whether you’re eligible to adopt, our Mythbuster will likely put your mind at rest.  Think you can’t adopt? You may be pleasantly surprised!

There’s no denying that embarking on the adoption process requires time and commitment. No two adoption journeys will be the same, but our guide to the adoption process will give you a snapshot of the whole adoption process. It briefly explains what you can expect and outlines the training and support you can expect to receive from SFCS along the way.

If you’re keen to find out more, our Adoption Information Pack unpicks the process even further, helping potential adopters to fully understand everything that’s involved in becoming an adoptive parent. It also gives you some information about the children who are in care and need adoption, and gives the views of adopted children and existing adopters.

Hearing from existing adopters

At SFCS, we realise how important it is for potential adopters to hear from other adoptive parents who have already been through the process. It can be reassuring, informative and inspiring.

Our resources include three fantastic animations which share the views of adopted young people and adopters themselves. Our information events include a chat from one of our existing adopters, and adopters also play a vital role in helping us to deliver training to those people who are just embarking on their adoption journeys.

But if you can’t wait until our events to hear what SFCS adopters have to say about the process, fifteen of them have kindly shared their amazing stories on the SFCS website.

And if all of the above weren’t enough, we also provide a host of useful links which will lead people to further sources of information. These links include important national websites such as First4Adoption, CoramBAAF and the CVAA, but also links to a range of resources about online safety for adopted children and articles which will help adoptive families to cope with Christmas.

Adopting a child is a massive decision, but SFCS is here to support and guide you every step of the way. We encourage you to check out our adoption resources, but we’d also love you to get in touch. We’ll be delighted to talk to you.
